Something is very wrong at the Bonington mine in South Africa, and Peter Rogers flies in from London to find out what´s happening.
Can the rare blue Bonington diamonds really be made by a machine ? And why has Stephanie´s father, Bonington´s financial director, disappeared?
Peter lay on the floor for several seconds without moving. Michael had driven the machine past him and was drilling into the rock outside the well. Blue dust filled the air in the tunnel.
Peter felt a sudden, sharp shock in his left side. What was it? He rolled over. He could feel the Demon King diamond in his left pocket. Then he felt a second shock. It came from the Demon King! Peter took the diamond out of his pocket and got to his feet. He felt a rush of strength go through his whole body. Just in front of him, he saw Michael driving the cutting machine through the blue dust.
The Demon King began to feel warm and heavy in his hand. Peter aimed the diamond at Michael and threw it as hard as he could. Michael was wearing a helmet but the stone hit him just below it, on the back of his neck. The big man fell forward on top of the machine controls. The engine stopped. The drill was no longer turning. Peter ran past it. He pulled heavy pieces of rock away from the hole which led into the well.
Inside the well Stephanie was looking down at her father. He was moving his lips, trying to say something.
Peter was still on the other side He pulled Michael off the seat of the machine and started the engine again. Then he began to drill a much bigger hole into the wall of the well.
Stephanie's father moved his lips again.
"Water. Quick, please give me some water." Stephanie could hear the sound of the drill outside. The wall of the well began to shake. Suddenly pieces of the light grey rock crashed down next to the dark blue rock outside the wall. The hole was much bigger. Peter came through it.
The man with three fingers
One day two men jumped out of their cars at London airport. They wanted to find an old man, his name was Bert Sims, who had only three fingers. Bert saw them coming into that building. So Bert walked away. He knew ,that they were looking for him. Then he took his hand into the coat, and then he had two pictures in his hand. He saw a bag on a chair, so he took the pictures in it. Then he went to a telephone.
The two men looked around, but they couldn’t find him. Suddenly they saw the man on the telephone. They ran to him and asked him, what he had done here. He said that he had phoned his mother. Then they wanted to talk to Bert, but he didn’t know why. So they said quietly, ´´About the pictures." Bert had to come with them.
Alan Heston came back to the chair, in which the pictures were, but he don’t know it. At six o’clock an airport bus stopped at the hotel Europa in Rome and Alan went into. Suddenly a man saw Alan. Alan saw the man, that he had only three fingers. He went into his room. Some times later Alan went out of a sight, suddenly he saw the man with three fingers once more. Two hours later Alan met a girl, her name was Isabella. On a evening he went with Isabella into a restaurant. He saw the man again. When they went home, Isabella took her arm around his back and stole his key, for the box, where the pictures were. Then she said, that she had to visit her brother, but she was lieing. When Alan went home, he noticed, that the key was missing. On the way home he suspected Isabella. Actually, Isabella was in Alan’s hotel and opened the box, but there weren’t any pictures. Suddenly a man was standing behind her and he said: ´´Sorry, but I have the pictures in my room. You are coming too late.´´ Then Isabella took a gun and told him to go into his room to give her the pictures. Few minutes later Alan came into the hotel. Isabella looked at Alan, then she ran out. Alan ran out, too. Isabella drove away with her car. Alan went into a taxi and drove away, too. But they couldn’t find her. Then Alan went to a big place. Suddenly a man was standing behind him. He said. ´´Give me the pictures!!!" But Alan didn’t know about them. So the man hit Alan to the ground. Then Isabella came and killed the man. After that situation, Alan and Isabella went on a trip.
