During occupation time the Russian soldiers always made controls.

One day Russian soldiers also came to my house at night. I was sleeping when they knocked at my door. I opened the door and they entered.

One soldier opened the door of my cupboard and found a uniform hat of our village fire brigade. He thought I was an officer of the German armed forces but the hat was not an officer´s hat. I wanted to explain that to him, but he didn´t believe me.

Suddenly I had a bright idea that cleared the situation. I gave him a box of cigars. Then the soldier changed his mind and said in a polite voice, “Good night”.

I was glad that the situation had turned out well.
