I21 An accident
Narrator: Luciano Lovato Reporter: Elena Agnolin, Roberta Berdusco
On 8th of September 1943 Luciano Lovato was captured by the German soldiers and was taken to Germany by train with a lot of people. They did not know where they were going and when they arrived they were imprisoned in a work camp. Luciano told that they were treated badly, they ate some bread and a few potatoes only once a day.
In this work camp a painful accident happened that Luciano remembers with sorrow and sadness. At the beginning he and his fellows had to do farm work and, although it was a hard and tiring task he did not complain because he knew that there were people who had harder jobs. Then he had to do a different task working with different tools. It was in this work camp that he lost an eye while he was working. Fortunately in a short time he was operated in a village nearby. He still suffers from the consequences of this accident.
Luciano did not tell us more because he does not talk a lot about that period.
