I9 A child
Narrator: Silvana Barcariol Reporter: Francesca Pozzobon
My name is Silvana Barcariol and I am 69 years old. It all happened at the end of the Second World War during the retreat of the German Army.
The Germans were in front of our house because there was a sort of natural hole where they could hide from the Americans passing by the state road which leads from Vicenza to Treviso.
One day an 8-year-old child and its father passed along the street on a cart pulled by cows. The Germans got on it and they ordered the man to take them on that road; but the Americans saw them and they started shooting. The Germans and the father threw themselves on the ground in a field along the street and they were safe, but the child died in front of his father, murdered by the machine-gun.
