I11 Pippo
Narrator: Ester
I'm Ester and I'm old now. I was young during the World War II. At that time we were afraid of an aeroplane called "Pippo". It flew low in the sky, so we had to cover the windows, by using manure, to avoid that any light could be seen from our houses. If the pilots of "Pippo" had seen any lights they would have bombarded us. One man of the village, Andy, Arduino's brother, who walked with crutches, warned us any time that "Pippo" passed and shouted to go in our houses.
One day, heard the noise of the plane, my family and I went quickly into our house. A splinter of the window stuck in the wall of the stable.
Another day I risked my life. I was going to pick up a cabbage in the field when I heard "Pippo" coming closer. On instinct I took shelter behind an oak. If that tree hadn’t protected me I would have been hit by a bullet or by a splinter and I would have died fifty years ago. That was in 1943.
