A24 Two friends
Narrator: Franz Fraißl Reporters: Mario Traxler, Andreas Widhalm
I had two friends in the German army ("Deutsche Wehrmacht"). One of them could neither read nor write; he was illiterate. So the other one wrote and read letters for him and to him.
One day one of them should be transferred to Rhodes, Greece. The two friends went to their commander and asked him to transfer both of them, but he refused to do so.
In the following night we heard two explosions sounding like a plane attack. Suddenly we heard our fellow soldiers crying for the ambulance men. It turned out that the illiterate soldier had comitted suicide because he was so desperate.
